H&M White Dress Shirt, Navy Cotton Shorts, and Blue Cotton Slip On Shoes

This year has been the hottest year on record in the United States according to a recent Huffington Post article. What is a fashionisto to do, to stay comfortable and trendy in these high temperatures?  One must choose the right clothing made from the right fabrics. Today we have so many options and materials to choose from.The one rule to follow is to choose a fabric that is nature made like cotton. Cotton is a material that is soft, light, and breathable and perfect for these humid summer days.

A couple of weeks ago I spoke with TheCuffLink editor Jarrod King about putting together some looks for summer. We both went into our closets and pulled out what we thought would be appropriate looks for summer. Here is a small selection of what we photographed.

The BET Awards were held at the shrine auditorium in Los Angeles. This annual event honors the accomplishments of Actors, Musicians, and Sports stars. These are the gentlemen who made our top 5 best dressed at this years awards show.

Rapper Flo Rida look very chic with his metallic blue jacket, white pants, and white dress shirt.

Actor Hosea Chanchez, This is my favorite look of the evening. This blue suit and white dress shirt is so simple and he is effortlessly dapper.

Singing group TGT, which consists of r&b singers Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank. I love the simplicity of the light cream blazers, t-shirts, and blue jeans.

Actor Boris Kodjoe looking cool, & dapper in a gray suite. This is the perfect example of how to wear a suit in the summer.

Target is always a stop I try to make for I fear I might miss a fashionable item they are currently offering for sale.  This was almost the case. While walking the back aisle of my local Target I noticed a display with a white shirt with horizontal black stripes, and another shirt with a very tropical looking print. Then I noticed the sign above the display that read “The Webster at Target”.

To think I almost missed this line. I already have purchased the horizontal black striped shirt. It’s also my intention to purchase the white pants and navy blue blazer. For me these are the two most important must-have pieces for men in this collection. The genius of these items is that you can wear them all together or you can split them up to create completely different looks. There are items in my closet with which I am already planning to pair the navy blue blazer.

The Webster was founded in 2007 by Laure Heriard Dubreuil who is CEO and Milan Vukmirovic who serves as Creative Director.

The collection the pair designed with target consists of approximately 211 pieces. This will allow shoppers at 1,800 Target stores across America to bring the chic fashions of Miami to many cities across America. That will definitely be the case for me here in Philadelphia.

Usher knows how to use color to make a statement in this sky blue suit. He finished the look off with a pair of grey oxford’s.

Eric Benet was looking very dapper in this grey suit. The way his vest, dress shirt, and tie pull the outfit together is well done. I think a brown leather shoe would have been a better fit for this outfit.

John Legend has a style of his own. This is one of his more dressed down looks. The base of his outfit consists of black pants and a black dress shirt. He chose a grey blazer, and grey suede zip tennis shoes to pull this look together.

My favorite look of the evening was worn by Swizz Beatz. For me this cream suit is a must have for the summer. Swizz makes this look so effortless and cool.

Their latest series of events is titled Entrée, which features local films, musicians, food, and vendors. TheCuffLink had the opportunity to meet a local designer, Nehemiah Davis, better known to TheCuffLink readers by his clothing line’s name, Neo Daviso.Jarrod King, editor of TheCuffLink had the opportunity to interview Mr. Davis:

TCL Your clothes all seem to tout a positive message. What was your inspiration for these phrases? ND Just moving forward and making positive moves for your future. So, everything that embodies that as far as traveling and enjoying life as much as you can… that’s basically where we get that from.

TCL We know your actual name is Nehemiah Davis, but where did the name Neo Daviso come from?

ND My friend created it 5 years ago. She said, “Let’s create something out of your name that still sounds cool and expensive,” so we came up with Neo Daviso.

TCL You know we follow you on Twitter and at one point you tweeted that you were fired from your job 6 years ago and that it was something that propelled you forward. What was the job and how did that experience move you ahead?

So happy I got fired from my last job 6 years ago. I never plan on returning

ND It was at a private airport and I’ve been on Donald Trump’s plane, President Obama’s… Everybody that comes in with a private plane, that’s where they come. After seeing this, I thought, “Wow, they’re living like this? That means average people can too.” So, I figure I can live like this one day. That’s what my mind is set on, and I’m not going to stop until I get there.

TCL We also saw that you tweeted you had acquired passports as well. Are there any travel plans in the future?

ND We’re thinking about going to Paris, France next month and a few more countries throughout this year. We’re just going to keep on promoting the brand and going to different countries.

We also had the opportunity to bump into Kings Rule Together designer Curran J. Swint

The latest installment of Entrée also featured musician David Live, who was looking sophisticated in all black.

CGM is hosting Entrée on the 4^th Sunday of each month, with the last event scheduled for August 26^th 2012. Tickets are $10 and Common Ground Management donates a portion of the proceeds to a local charity.

The month of April was a busy one for TheCuffLink. We have been busy attending networking events and getting our name out to our fellow Philadelphians. This past Sunday we decided to spend the afternoon in Rittenhouse square for couple hours of style watching.

During the style watch, we were able to witness a variety of different styles. From older gentlemen dressed in their Sunday best, to young men styled for a causal stroll through the square. In our opinion there were a few whose style made a statement. The thing about Philadelphia style is that it isn’t intentional – it’s effortless.

Sunday was the perfect day to break out your trench coats, cardigan sweaters, and hunter boots. The key to dressing during these random cold spells in the spring is to dress in layers and I did just that.

The Express coat is designed to protect you from the elements; it’s made from a light material, but offers structure.

The black skinny jeans by Levi are also a great item most men should have in their collection. These jeans can be worn in a causal style during the day, and then be styled to create a chic evening look. They retail for $50

I love the Idea of the hunter boot. These boots are perfect and they can be worn in all seasons, but I only recommend you wear them when the weather calls for it or else you will end up looking strange. These can be purchased at any high-end retailer for a reasonable $125.

Last summer GQ ranked Philadelphia as the 6^th worst dressed city in the country. Yes, that’s right, the 6^th worst dressed city! How rude!

Well, like many things in this world, GQ is entitled to its opinion even if it’s dead wrong.
